Hoagy Carmichael Double Feature Part 2 Updated: 2007-03-02 06:22:10 Description: Hoagland "Hoagy" Carmichael (1899-1981) was one of the all time great American song writers penning such classics as "Stardust", "Heart and Soul" and "Georgia on My Mind." Hoagy was also a wonderful singer, piano player and a good actor,appearing in films like To Have and Have Not (1944) and Best Years of Our Lives (1946). Carmichael made several appearances on radio shows. The second show of our Hoagy Carmichael double feature is: The Jack Benny Show April 6, 1947 In this episode Jack Benny visits Goldwyn Sturdios to try and convince Sam Goldwyn to produce a film of the Life of Jack Benny. At the Academy Award ceremony, a week before this broadcast, Hoagy Carmichael was nominated for his song "Ole Buttermilk Sky" from the film Canyon Passage. During the reading of the nominees, Sam Goldwyn had called Hoagy "Hugo Carmichael". In this episode Jack Benny encounters Hoagy coming out of Goldwyn's office. They exchange a few jokes and Hoagy sings an altered version of "Ole Buttermilk Sky" that turns into a commercial for Lucky Strike Cigarettes. Sam Goldwyn is pretty funny too. LISTEN NOW | DOWNLOAD |
