The origins of the German Marshall Fund
Updated: 2007-08-17 17:00:00
Description: This year is a special anniversary for the Marshall Plan and for the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF). 2007 marks the 60th anniversary of the Marshall Plan -- officially known as the European Recovery Program -- since its 1947 enactment, and the 35th anniversary of GMF, originating in 1972 as a permanent memorial to Marshall Plan assistance for Europe. Dr. Guido Goldman, currently co-chairman of GMF's Board of Trustees, was an integral part of the organization’s beginnings in 1972. Involved in virtually all aspects of the inception, he offers his insights in an audio interview on GMF's founding.
